Jan Schloss, MSW RSW ACPC AccFM


Jan has an independent practice focusing on: coaching through separation/divorce, parent coaching, family mediation/parenting plans, child protection mediation, parenting coordination, custody and access assessments, and family consultations. She is a member of the Family Needs Consultation Group, providing consultations to high-conflict families. Her extensive background in child welfare and over a decade of volunteer work with parents of acting-out teens (APSGO) has given her a grounding in understanding the nature of family conflict.


A graduate of the Adler School of Professional Coaching, she is a Certified Professional Coach. As a former faculty member at the Adler School of Professional Coaching, she taught and was actively involved in the curriculum development of a Parent Coaching course.


Jan is the Executive Director of the Toronto Mediation Centre, an organization which provides Child Protection Mediation to families working with Children's Aid Societies in Toronto.  She is an active member of Collaborative Practice Toronto, which “appeals to the highest motivations of the [separating] couple – their desire to maintain respect, protect children and prepare for a hopeful future”, while keeping the process out of court.


She has a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto and a Certificate in Family Mediation from the University of Toronto. She is a member of the Ontario Association of Family Mediators and a member of the Ontario Association of Parent Support Groups. Jan is co- author of two papers focusing on Parents with Neurological Disorders, and a co author with Dr. Barbara Jo Fidler, on Coaching Parents through Parenting Plans.


She is the parent of a daughter and a son with special needs who have gone on to achieve to the best of their capabilities.
